About myself

My name is Donna Steenberg. I teach elementary art (Kindergarten - 6th grade)at Brushton-Moira. I have been teaching at BMC since 1997. I am married to Mr. Steenberg and we have 3 children: Jacob is 12, Paul is 10, and Rebekah is 6 years old. I enjoy quilting, reading, spending time with family, and garage sales!! My favorite things to buy are 10 cent children books :)

Art Association

Art Association in open to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Students who want to do the craft projects have to bring in the signed permission slip and $1.00 per project. Permission slips will be available in September.

ART at BMC

Students are very busy in art class!! Kindergarteners are learning about primary colors. They are blending them to create secondary colors.

First graders just finished creating a family memory "quilt" influenced by Faith Ringgold. Now students are going to look at Paul Cezanne's still lifes and create their own still lifes.

Second graders are creating a monochromatic (one color with tints and shades of that color) collage using magazines.

Third graders looked at Alexander Calder's stabiles and mobiles. Students are using a variety of material to create their own stabile/mobile combination.

Fourth graders are just finishing up learning about color: primary and secondary colors, tints and shades, complementary colors. Students created a drawing that they colored by using only primary colors and blending to make other colors.

Fifth grade students watched a video on Aboriginal Art. Students are creating their own pictures influenced by the Aboriginal Art. They are drawing animals from our environment with lots of patterns in the animals and around them.

Sixth grade students are just finishing up creating art influenced by Op Art. Students are then going to create a drawing depicting things that tell people about them.

We will listen to books, create a craft, and have snacks. Read-A-Longs are open to children PreK-5th Grade. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

BOOK IT!

Students in Kindergaten - 6th Grade are eligible to do Book It! Students read the required amount for the months October - March, get a parent's signature, fill out the paperwork, turn it in to the teacher doing Book It! with them, and recieve a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza certificate. For students who complete Book It! for all 6 months they are invited to a Book It! Celebration in May.

"Parents Are Key" Parent Group

Brushton-Moira Central School has a "Parents Are Key" Parent Group. This group is geared to families that have younger Elementary Students. We have 8 (2 hour) sessions for parents. We focus on English Language Arts (reading and writing), Math, and Computers. Parents and children do some "homework" together. Most nights we have a guest speaker. Parents are given a small check to help compensate for their time, lots of free children's book, and small gifts. Childcare is provided at no cost. We have lots of fun and learn how to better help our children!!

We have funding for another Parents Are Key Group!! The first of the 8 sessions will be starting end of September or beginning of October. Contact Terry Denno, Paula Follett or myself for more information.
